De Sankt Laurentdruif is globaal een nobele onbekende. De oorsprong van deze druif staat ook niet helemaal vast, maar vermoedelijk komt ze uit de Franse Elzas. In Oostenrijk doet men mooie dingen met dit familielid van de pinot noir. Sankt Laurent is minder fluwelig en is zowel qua kleur als qua smaak voller. Erg karakteristiek en aangenaam is de aardse toon. Ook bij Taferner weten ze wel raad met de druif, die nood heeft aan een vruchtbare bodem en het best op de leemondergrond van het domein gedijt. De lagering gebeurde op grotendeels gebruikte barrique. In het glas een robijnrode wijn met een boeiend bouquet: een klamme bosgrond zorgt voor de aardse tonen waarover reeds sprake en het fijne rode fruit dat pinot noir zo geliefd maakt, wordt aangevuld met pruim en zure kers, maar ook een lichtjes pikante kruidentoets en een streep chocolade zijn van de partij.
