Vroege ontdekkingsreizigers als George Yount plantten druiven in Napa in 1838. Charles Krug wordt gezien als de eerste die een commercieel wijnhuis begon, in 1861. Met de opening in 1966 van de Robert Mondavi Winery begon de wijn “boom” in Napa Valley.
